The S&P Global Japan Manufacturing PMI was confirmed at 53.3 in October 2026, in line with the preliminary estimate but down from 54.1 in September. This marked the slowest expansion in the manufacturing sector since March, as firms reported more moderate increases in both output and new orders, each rising at their weakest pace in seven months. Employment continued to grow, with the rate of job creation remaining among the strongest seen over the past decade. Purchasing activity also expanded, though at its slowest rate in six months. At the same time, suppliers’ delivery times lengthened significantly. On the price front, input cost inflation accelerated for the first time in five months, while output prices continued to rise, albeit with inflation easing to a six-month low. Looking ahead, business sentiment stayed positive and improved slightly.
